ON A PERSONAL NOTE – I touch the parchment, and feel its velvety, caressing surface; I turn it over and gaze at its brown and gold shades, I am filled with an awareness of its sanctity, as I review in my mind’s eye the long process it has traversed from its origins as animal leather until its transformation into parchment used for writing Sifrei Torah and Mezuzot.
